Obituary

The Family Tribute
Come, ye disconsolate, where’er ye languish,
Come to the mercy seat, fervently kneel.
Here bring your wounded hearts, here tell your anguish;
Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.

Mr. Charlie Wendell Grinton, Sr., 62, 190 Redmon Road, Harmony, NC, went to be with the Lord at Iredell Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. He was born in Yadkin County on February 7, 1959, and was the son of the late Harry Harold Grinton, Sr. and Jewel Jean Holmes Grinton.

He was a graduate of Starmount High School in Boonville, NC. At the time of his death, he was employed by J. C. Steele and Sons in Statesville, NC. He served with the United States Army, and was honorably discharged. He was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Harmony, where he served as an Usher, a member of The Mighty Men’s Choir, and was also Director over the New Generation Choir. He was united in marriage to Sherry Lynn Houston Grinton.

To cherish the memory of his life, he leaves his wife, Sherry Lynn Houston Grinton of the home; three children, Christie Parsons of Jonesville, NC, Charlie Wendell (Mariah Washington) Grinton, Jr. of Blacksburg, Virginia, and Shanese Lynnette Grinton of the home; his siblings, Barry (Joann) Holmes of Durham, Harry (Betty) Grinton, Jr. of Statesville, Sandra (Garrison Rice) Smith of Statesville, Pamela (Brian) Womble of Kernersville, Kevin Grinton and Ronnie Grinton, both of Boonville; his mother-in-law, Sandra Houston of Harmony; his brother-in-law, Darrell Todd (Mamie) Houston of Troutman; his sister-in-law, Pamela (Lamont) Summers of Statesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, the Mt. Nebo Church Family, and friends.

You can no longer see me,
But please know that
I am the flowers in the garden,
I am the wind beneath your hair.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I didn't get to see my cousin Wendell often, but when I did it was like I had just seen him the day before. Growing up we appreciated good food, riding horses, sports, discipline and most of all being family. I remember riding horses one of many Sunday afternoons and Beauty, the horse I was riding took off and Wendell like the best cowboy in the world saved me and Pam by stopping the horses from running into traffic. That is just one of many special memories.
Rest well cuz! I'll see you again one day. Much love to you! ❤❤

My memories are filled with the images of laughing around the Carrie's and then Jewel Jean's tables, riding horses, football and the church picnic. Your cousins are always your first friends...so very sad that I will not hear your voice saying, "What's up, Cuz?" You are forever in our hearts. We will uphold your family and extend your legacy to those yet unborn.

There's just no words to describe how my heart hurts to hear of the passing of Wendell, one of my funniest cousins, a true gentleman. May the love and all your years of beautiful memories sustain each of you during these very difficult days. Rest well my cousin ❤
