Obituary for Claude Lee Steele

The Family Tribute
Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.

Mr. Claude Lee Steele, son of the late Clinnie Steele and Sally Bet Dalton Steele, was born in Iredell County on February 14, 1942. He departed this life on Monday, July 20, 2020, following an extended illness.

He was a High School graduate and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harmony where he served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board. He loved singing an sang with the Gospel Choir, Men’s Choir, and Senior Choir, and also was an Usher, a Willing Worker and a member of the Brotherhood.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Fred Lee Steele, James Edward Steele, Johnny Gus Steele and Robert Wayne Steele. At one time, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Nichols Steele.

He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, his children, Myron Stephon Nichols of Harmony, Lemuel Douglas (Jaime) Nichols of Mocksville, Todd (Rosa) Steele of the home and Sarah Jaini Leach of Salisbury; his brother, Joe Louis (Carlene) Steele of Statesville; his sisters-in-law, Edna Steele of Yadkinville and Lois Steele of Statesville; a brothers-in-law, Robert (Mary) Nichols and James Nichols; a special cousin, Wayne Campbell of Harmony; a friend, William (Dorothy) Summers of Harmony; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, the First Baptist Church Family, and friends.

Funeral services are Sunday, July 26, 2020, at 12:00 noon at First Baptist Church, Harmony. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Rutledge and Bigham is serving the Steele family.

There will be NO PUBLIC VISITATION, unfortunately, with the COVID-19 Virus we, at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home, along with other funeral homes across the country, have been issued a mandate to limit the number of family and/or friends at funeral services. YOU CAN ONLY ENTER THE FUNERAL WITH A FUNERAL PASS WHICH WILL BE GIVEN TO THE FAMILY.

GENERAL PUBLIC VIEWING WILL BE FROM Saturday until 7:00 P.M. IT WILL RESUME ON Sunday FROM 9:00 A.M. UNTIL 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Steele will be taken to First Baptist Church in Harmony to lie in state at 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral hour.
