Obituary for Connie Cleo McClain

Isaiah 41:10 " Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will uphold you with my right hand.”

Mrs. Connie Cleo McClain, affectionately known as “Granny” was born in Iredell County on October 12, 1949, to the late Lucious Lane McWhorter and Ina Caroll McWhorter. She departed this life peacefully on Friday, October 14, 2022, at her home. Connie was also preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Lonnie McCain . She will truly be missed by the many lives she touched.

Granny was a friend, mentor, chef, therapist, a loving, kind, and a gentle woman to everyone she met. Connie’s legacy will live on in the lives of those that loved her and will miss her.

Along with her mother, father, and husband, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Lonnie McWhorter, who was her twin, Richard McWhorter, and 949Willie Joe McWhorter, brother-n-laws, Hal Pat Miller, Lonnie Watts, and Richard Mosner; sisters, Nellie Irvis, Lilla Miller, and LouAnn Watts; sister-n-law, Pamela McWhorter; and her favorite nephew, Ricky Lane McWhorter.

Connie leaves to cherish the memory of her wonderful life to daughter, Caroline (William) Flippen of the home; son, Chrystopher “Cam” (Thelma) McClain, of Durham, N.C.; sisters, Bernice McWhorter, Ernestine Moser, and Juanita Driver, of Stony Point, N.C.; grandchildren, Aria McClain and Kiara McClain of Statesville, N.C., Jasmine Hayden and Cameron McClain, of Troutman, Jonathan McClain and Robert Braxton of Durham; and a bonus granddaughter, Tyjia Stevenson, of Statesville; great grand twins, Camden and Chrystian McClain, Jayden McClain, Javon Brooks, Kaysen McClain, Brielle Allison, Zoee Allison, Dequan Ferguson, Camilla McClain, Jay Sean Conner, Jamel Conner, Jermiah Conner, Tyvere Porter, Kadience McClain, Ian Stevenson, Kuron Lofton and Tameah Lofton; special nieces, Carla Watts and Gail Miller Scott; special friends, Lori Smyre and Kerry Woods; a host of other cousins, relatives, and friends.

Celebration of Life services will be held on October 25, 2022 at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary, Statesville. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 5:30 pm at the funeral home.
