Obituary for Derryck Turner

Isaiah 35:10 -and those the Lord has rescued will return. They will enter Zion with singing, everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

A smile for all, a heart of gold,
one of the finest this world could hold
Never selfish, always kind;
these are the memories he leaves behind…

Mr. Derryck Duane Turner, beloved son of Phyllis Ann Daye and the late Derryck Duane “Drack” Turner, was born in Iredell County on October 8, 1990. He departed this life on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC.

Derryck graduated from Waddell High School in Charlotte, NC and was employed with Truck Movers prior to his death. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and was affectionately known by his friends and family as “Black Migo.”

He leaves to cherish the memory of his life his mother, Phyllis Ann Daye of Charlotte; five children, Aiden Turner of Charlotte, Derryck Turner III, Naloni Turner, Dakota Turner, and Aladdin Turner, all of Statesville; his girlfriend, Tylicia Stevenson of Statesville; grandparents, Rickey Turner, Shelby Gaither, and Sarah Daye; brothers, Antwan Daye of Statesville, Michael Clarke and Billy Clarke of Charlotte; four sisters, Martieka Daye of Mooresville, Mya Stevenson of Charlotte, Jameka Turner and Shacobee Turner, both of Statesville; a goddaughter, Beautiful Myers; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Christian Outreach of the Piedmont. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow at the Belmont Cemetery.
