Mr. Dontay Lee Reid, 39, was born in Mooresville, NC, on November 29, 1983, to Dennis Lee Cornelius and the late Carolyn Reid Cornelius. He departed this life on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Dontay was affectionately known as “Tay” by his family and friends. He graduated from Mooresville High School with the Class of 2002 and was a member of the football team. While in high school he worked in a café and later was employed as a machine operator at Toter LLC, Statesville, NC.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Reid Cornelius, an uncle, Charles S. Reid, cousins, Natasha Reid, Candy Reid and Jerome Borders.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, his father, Dennis Lee Cornelius; his grandparents, Brisco Cornelius, Virginia Long, and Charles and Sarah Lee Reid; one brother, Dennis J. Reid of the home; one sister, Sabrina (Preston) Reid of the home; five uncles, Thomas (Minnie) Reid, James Reid, Richard Reid, Kenneth (Patricia) Reid, Andy Reid; seven aunts, Sandra B. Reid, Brenda Henderson, Rosemary (Marshall) McNeeley, Evette Reid, Evonne Reid, Janice Mary Cherry, Denise Cornelius; nieces and nephews, Samare Reid, Aliyah Jones, Jaylen Jones, Nadia Chambers, and Preston Chambers; great nieces and great nephews, Austin Moss Jr., and Janell Jones; and a host of other relatives, and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary, Statesville, NC. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
Family and friends will assemble at 808 Jost St, Statesville, NC.
