Mr. Edward Thomas Martin, 71, was born in Danville, Virginia, on December 19, 1950, and was the son of the late Charles Valentine, and Glady’s Martin. He passed away at his residence in Statesville, North Carolina on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, following an extended illness and was the beloved husband of 43 years to Patricia Cleveland Martin. From this union, two sons, Shadrick and Reginald, were born.

Edward graduated from Southside High School in Blairs, Virginia in 1969. Shortly thereafter, he served in the U.S. Air Force for seven years. During his time of service, his outstanding professional skill, knowledge and leadership warranted him as sergeant while stationed in Ching Chuan Kang Air Baptist, Taiwan. He was honorably discharged.
After working numerous transport jobs, he decided to start his own trucking business for three years and then again in 2012 until his departure. He was self-employed as a Transport Driver. Edward will truly be missed. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Darryl Martin and a sister, Phyllis Valentine.
He leaves to cherish the memories of his life, a wife, Patricia C. Martin, of the home; two sons, Shadrick Thomas Martin, of Kathleen, Ga., and Reginald Edward Martin, of Statesville; a host of siblings including brothers, Odell (Rebecca) Martin, of Harrisburg, Pa., Gary Wayne Martin, of Cascade, Va., and Charlie (Nancy) Martin, of Danville, Va. one sister, Glady’s Simmons (Bruce) of Axton, Virginia; a host of siblings in New Jersey and the Valentines, and other relatives and friends.
Edward accepted The Most High at an early age and as proof for his love, he displayed and lived out the qualities of the Fruit of the Spirit. He was the pastor of Tabernacle of Truth for five years and then began a journey of evangelism. As his wife, Patricia experiences heartfelt sadness, she knows The Most High had a divine plan for her best friend and husband. With his witty charm and joking personality, Edward brought joy, laughter, and love to all. He will be missed by all.

God saw you were getting weary, so He did what He knew was best.
He came and stood beside you, and whispered, “Come and rest.”
You bade no one a last farewell, nor even a sad good-bye.
You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why.
You left us very quickly, your many thoughts unknown.
But left us many memories we are so proud to own.
So treasure him, dear Lord, In your Garden of Rest;
For while here on earth, he was truly one of the best.

Military Rites will be performed on Friday, February 18, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at The National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
