Obituary for Emery Leon Pickens

John 11:25-26. Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die."

Mr. Emery Leon Pickens, 62, was born in Statesville, NC. on November 26, 1960, to the late Herbert Hall Pickens Sr. and Lucy Irene Brawley Moore. He departed this life on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.

Emery attended Mecklenburg County schools and after graduation served his country in the U. S. Army. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he spent several years as an over the road trucker until his health failed him. He enjoyed watching TV, fishing, loved cooking, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Trixie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Thomas Geter Moore Sr; his step-mother, Magnolia McCombs Pickens; a brother Walter B. Pickens II; a sister, Anita Pickens Smith, and a brother-in-law, James McKinney.

He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, three sons, Isiah Leon Payton, Isaac Junior Lee Payton, and Emery Leon Pickens Jr.; three daughters, Lakeia Nicole Pickens, Ebony Aquia Pickens (Charles) Butler Jr, and Juanita Pickens Jimenez, all of Kannapolis, NC; one brother, Herbert Hall (Anita) Pickens Jr, of Independence, MO; two sisters, Gloria Ann Pickens McKinney of Hephzibah, GA. and Beverly Louise Pickens Allison of Flat Rock, NC.; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and
a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
