Obituary for John Scott

John J “Duke” Scott was born on April 2, 1932, and was the son of the late Wilma McCelland and J. Lynn Roosevelt Scott of Shiloh. He departed this life on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Autumn Care in Statesville, NC.

He graduated from Happy Plains High School in Taylorsville, NC in 1954, and served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. He was retired from Holly Farms, he loved to cut grass and was also a barber. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Lucy Mayo McWhiter Scott; brothers, James W Scott and Charles “Bubba” Scott; his sisters, Julia May Scott Morrison, Mary Nell Scott Morrison, and Virginia Scott Campbell; a niece, Shirley Stokes and his nephews; Carlee Morrison and Wade Morrison.

Left to cherish the memories of his life are his sons, Gregory (Janice) Bailey of Taylorsville, NC and Jonathan M Bennett, Sr. of Statesville, NC; a special nephew, Charles “Chuckie” Scott of Statesville NC; his grandchildren, Anitria Bailey of Greensboro NC, Janelle Caldwell and Leigh Caldwell, both of Statesville NC, Jonathan (Jackie Vinsingard) Bennett, Jr. of Newton NC, and Jamar Bennett of Statesville NC; eight great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Friday, April 16, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Rites in Stony Point, NC. Visit the Book of Memories for Mr. Scott at www.rutledgeandbigham.com.
