Obituary for Marion Christine "Granny" Perry (Obey)

Mrs. Marion Christine Obey Perry, 79, affectionately called Granny by her family, passed away at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Wilkes County on June 26, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Will Obey and Nellie Clara Brown Obey.

She was a graduate of Lincoln Heights High School and Wilkes Community College. At one time, she was employed by Wilkes General Hospital over 30 years as a nurse. Marion attended Brown's Temple Holiness Church, at an early age while her mother, Nellie Clara Obey, served as pastor. She was one of the first members of Miracle Faith and later, she became the minister. She left here a member and a minister of Freewill Family Worship Center. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Her hobbies included fellowship with family and friends, cooking, baking, reading, and watching westerns on television. She was thrice married, first to James Robert Little, Allen Turner and William Perry, all of whom preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by her birth mother, Frances Delores Vannoy; her son, Mark Stephen Little and two sisters, Linda Vannoy and Grace Frances Vannoy.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, two sons, Timothy Luke (Debbie) Little of North Wilkesboro, and Brian Keith Turner, of Wilkesboro; one daughter, Patsy Diana Little Phifer of Statesville; one brother, Charles Vannoy of New York; one sister, Susie Nelson of New York; godchildren, Laura Parks, Vanessa Lopez, Quinton Parks, Shaquana Parks, Porshae Johnson, Jatorre Dixon, and Romone Speller; seventeen grandchildren, Khrystyna (Joe) Smith of Statesville, Jason Little of Boomer, Ryan Little of Wilkesboro, Joshua-David Poe of Salisbury, Terrill Little and Justin Little, both of North Wilkesboro, Kiesha Turner, Alexus Turner, Lauryn Turner, Isaiah Turner, Elijah Turner, Olivia Turner, Sophia Turner, Brooklyn Turner, Nikki Little, and Jennifer Little, all of Wilkesboro, and Quinton Phifer of Atlanta, Ga; great grandchildren, Aaliyah Poe and Peyton Smith, both of Statesville, Xavier Jamal Little and Maleah Nicole Little, both of Wilkesboro, Kalina Poe and Cateleya Poe, both of Salisbury, Jaycen Phifer of Atlanta, Ga, Dylan Pearson, Angelica Little, Emiliano Cervantes, Mariana Cervantes, Carmelo Comstock, Kaneki Turner, Rain Turner, Adien Turner, Matthew Spears, Jordan Turner, and Daisy Foster, all of Wilkesboro, Juwan Smith of Statesville, Ashton Key, Avery Key and Axel Key, all of Wilkesboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Her children arise and call her blessed…


Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., at Miracle Faith Towers. Pastor Charles Davidson will officiate. Mrs. Perry will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 1:30 p.m. Members of the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of her granddaughter, Krissy (Joe) Smith, 154 Gemstone Drive, Statesville, NC 28625.
