Obituary for Melvin Henry Johnson

Even in the midst of a storm, God will give you peace...

Mr. Melvin Henry Johnson, 69, of 3317 Morning Dew Road, Greensboro was born in Iredell County on May 31, 1952, and was the late Lucy Mae Carol Tabor Johnson. He passed away at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N. C. on Thursday, April 7, 2022, following an extended illness.

In addition to his mother, Lucy Mae Johnson, he was preceded in death by his, grandmother, Eupholia Carrol Tabor, his father, Shelvie Heath; his sister, Elaine Jessie Johnson and his sister-in-love, Linda Tucker Johnson.
He attended Unity high School until desegregation and then graduated from North Iredell High School. He loved and adored his family tremendously. He left Statesville and moved to High Point and then to Greensboro NC in 1988. He enjoyed basketball and football, history and listening to music. He was a fighter and never accepted no as an answer: not personally nor professionally. He worked in sales and was self-employed in insurance, food, and then legal services. Always wanting the best for everyone around him. He was united in marriage to Joyce Johnson on May 26, 1973.

He leaves to cherish his memory of his wife of 49 years, Joyce Johnson of the home; three sons and two daughters, Pevas (Theresa) Bailey of Kingsport TN, Timothy (Maria) Walker of Florence SC, Marcus Duane (Ginory) Johnson of Virginia Beach VA, Kendrice (Dayton) Johnson of Greensboro and Jasmin Johnson of Durham; his brother, Robert Johnson of Huntersville; ten grandchildren, Andre (Tasha) Watson of Mebane, Amber Minor of Charlotte, Brianna Japson of Virginia Beach, Va., Raven Johnson of Greensboro, Timothy Walker, Jr. of Statesville, Domonique Bailey of Kingsport, TN., Marcus Johnson, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., Ju’Wan Gamble of Greensboro, Day’Ona Gamble of Greensboro, and Kendrick Johnson of Greensboro; five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbors, church family and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Friday, April 22, 2022, at Love and Faith Christian Fellowship, 4344 Blackberry Road, Greensboro, North Carolina 27406 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Michael Thomas will officiate. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times. Interment Services will follow in the Belmont Cemetery on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.
