Remembering His Life

Mr. Milton Lee Mayfield

Mr. Milton Lee Mayfield, son of the late Jesse and Sadie Bell Mayfield, was born in Iredell County on September 15, 1938. He departed this life on March 4, 2021. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James "Snooky" Mayfield, Nathaniel "Boone" Mayfield, Eugene Mayfield, and Isaiah "Mickey" Mayfield. Three sisters, Margaret Gaskill, Pauline Whiteside, and Katherine Williams.

Milton attended Unity High School. Milton, at an early age, helped his father working in Pulp Wood prior to moving to New York. While in New York he married Shirley Mae Brantley. Milton moved back to North Carolina in 1964 and worked for Impact Furniture Company until retirement. He also worked at the Vocational Workshop in Troutman, North Carolina as a truck driver.

He was a member of Holsey Memorial CME Church for many years. He was the Head of Steward Board, Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher, Jail and Prison Ministry, Methodist Men, the Voice of Holsey and Senior Choir and Usher Board. In the later years Milton became a member of Exodus Missionary Outreach Church in Hickory, North Carolina under the leadership of Rev. Reggie Longcrier. He continued with Jail and Prison Ministry including the Prison Rehabilitation Program.

He leaves to cherish the memories of his life, his wife of 60 years, Shirley Brantley Mayfield of the home; four children Milton Darnell Mayfield, Jr. of Salisbury, NC, Rev. Sheila Mayfield Williams, Jermaine Lamont Mayfield (Trevis) and Yashika Daniels Bell (Toby), all of Statesville, North Carolina; two sisters, Mary Alice Mayfield, and Elizabeth Jackson; one brother, Clifford Mayfield (Mary); a special nephew, Phillip Mayfield, all of Statesville, NC; sisters-in-law, Ms. Sherry Kaye Mayfield of Statesville, Ms. Barbara Ravenel of New York City NY, Lois Wilson (Abraham) of Charleston, SC, and Betty Jo Brantley of Elloree, SC; one brother-in-law, Nathaniel Brantley (Maudie) of Dix Halls, New York; four grandchildren, Asia Dalton, Oreon Mayfield, Akeem Robertson and Shamiah Daniels, all of the Statesville; six great-grandchildren, Oreon Mayfield, Jr., Cameron Mayfield, Akeem Robertson, Jr. and Ava Robertson, Kariaun Ellis and Diva; special nephews, Mark Mayfield, Ricky Studevent, and special thanks to cousin Shawna Mayfield and sister-in-law Sherry Mayfield; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. in the Belmont Cemetery. Reverend Barbara McCollum will officiate and Reverend Reggie Longcrier will eulogize. Burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery.

There will be NO PUBLIC VISITATION (WAKE), unfortunately, with the COVID-19 Virus. We, at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home, along with other funeral homes across the country, have been issued a mandate to limit the number of family and/or friends at funeral services.

GENERAL PUBLIC VIEWING WILL START FROM 2:00 P.M. UNTIL 6:00 P.M. ON Tuesday, MARCH 9, 2021 AND RESUME ON Wednesday, March 10, 2021 FROM 10:00 A.M. UNTIL THE FUNERAL HOUR.
