Never selfish, always kind, these are the memories she leaves behind…

Mrs. Pauline Scott Blackwell was born in Statesville, North Carolina on September 3, 1947 and was the daughter of the late James Henry Scott, Sr. and Lola Woods Scott. She entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 following a brief illness.

Pauline was a proud graduate of Unity High School, Class of 1965. She was also a faithful and dedicated lifetime member of Elmwood AME Zion Church where she served in various capacities including Usher, Deaconess, Preacher’s Steward, Stewardess, Christian Education, Missionary, Lay Council Member, Statesville District Finance Committee, and Trustee.

In her spare time, she loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and spend time with her grandchildren. She loved her family, friends, and her Class of 1965. She will be greatly missed. She was united in marriage to Joe Blackwell, who preceded her in death on April 2, 2020. In addition to her husband, Joe and her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings Patricia Everhardt, Barbara Brame, and James Scott, Jr.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, three sons, DeLeon (Cherrie) Watts, Sr. of Statesville, NC, Derek (LaTorya) Blackwell of Charlotte, NC and Anthony Blackwell of Statesville, NC; five grandchildren, DeLeon (Jessica) Watts, Jr., Sakari Johnson, Jamaury Blackwell, Shyla Blackwell, and Kase Blackwell; two great-grandchildren, DeLeon Watts, III and Nevaeh Watts; two sisters, Jane Parker and Deborah Campbell, both of Statesville; two sisters-in-law, Sallie L. Witt of Statesville and Sarah (Bishop Joseph) Farmer of Ringgold, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Douglas (Kathy) Blackwell of Statesville, NC, an aunt, Ruby Woods of Statesville; and a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, church family, other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Monday, May 3, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Greater New Mt. Olive Church.
Mrs. Blackwell will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary until taken to the place to lie in state at 10:00 am on Monday, one hour prior to the funeral service.

Reverend Chambers will eulogize and burial will follow Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at The National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
