Obituary for Perry Jarmayne "Big Perry" Burke

Mr. Perry Jarmayne Burke, “Mayne” was born in Statesville, N. C. on October 15, 1982 to Perry Jerome Knox (Barbara) and Alicia Burke Rayton (Bishop). He departed this life on Wednesday, June 9, 2021.

Perry attended West Iredell High School and graduated in 2001. He played on the Varsity Football Team from his freshman and senior years of high school. He was on the track team and was an awesome disc thrower and shot put athlete. He broke the record at West Iredell in these sports. After high school, he attended Mitchell Community College and graduated in 2003. He was a former teacher of Barium Springs in Troutman, N.C. He loved to sing and was also a member of the Iredell Warriors, a semi pro football team. Perry was employed by Tyson Food Plant in Wilkesboro, N.C.
He was preceded in death by a son, P.J., his maternal grandmother, Hazel Ann Burke; his maternal grandfather, Willie Lee Jones; his paternal grandfather, Eddie Lee Knox; his great grandmother, Wilma Speaks; his great grandfather, Stroy Speaks; one uncle, David Burke and a sister-in-law, Amanda Caldwell Carpenter.

He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, his wife, Cherelle Carpenter Burke; his sons, Kaleel Burke and Adien Burke, Grayson Burke, all of Statesville; his daughter, Faith Burke of Statesville; his godchildren, Taitiyanna, Zitayvion, Arihanna, Deandre, Jeremiah, Lydianna, and Ronald, Jr.; his father, Perry Jerome (Barbara) Knox; his mother, Alicia Burke (Bishop) Rayton; his brother, Montel Burke of Statesville; his sisters, Latasha Rhodes of Statesville, Anyssa Teasley of Colorado; his step-brothers, Trey Simpson of Georgia, Brishireon Smith of Statesville; his step-sisters, Karrissa Butler of Georgia; his god-sisters and god-brothers, Deshawna Bradshaw, De’ijha Thomas and D’avion Thomas; his paternal grandmother, Linda Knox; his father-in-law, Billy Carpenter; his mother-in-law, Shirley Carpenter; his brother-in-law, B. J. Carpenter; his sisters-in-law, Ann Carpenter and Iyonna Carpenter; his uncles, Rayford Burke, Willie (Jonathan) Burke, Tony Burke, Eddie (Wanda) Knox, Jr., Gary Gibbs, and Stacy Knox; his aunts, Barbara Bowman, Patsy Bowman, Christine (Gerald) Johnson, Frances (David) Knox Jones, Freida (Burley) Hunter, and Felicia Clyburn, all of Statesville, Vivian (Daniel) Argoe of S.C., and Erica (Todd) Connor of Troutman; nephews, Ja’neal Burke, Devon Carpenter and Marcus Smith; special friends, Jamey Johnson, David Jones, Shane Ratliff, Derrise Frazier; his Iredell Warriors Teammates; neighbors and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Pastor Charles Davidson will officiate and burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery.

Mr. Burke will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home where members of the family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of his in-law, Billy and Shirley Carpenter, 449 Picadilly Lane, Troutman, at other times.
