Obituary for Reginald "Dee Dee" Tatum
Mr. Reginald “Dee Dee” Tatum, 66, of Statesville, NC, passed away on May 14, 2021 at Gordon’s Hospice House in Statesville, NC following an extended illness. He was born in Iredell County July 21, 1954, and was the son of Annie Lee Miller Tatum and the late John Tatum.
He was a graduate of South Iredell High School and at an early age, he attended New Center Presbyterian Church and Logan Presbyterian Church. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by J. C. Penny for over 38 years. For over forty-nine years, he shared his life with Sheila Sturghill Tatum, and they’ve been married for over thirty-nine years. His hobbies included fishing, old school music, chocolate cake, being with family and friends and challenging his Mom with the daily crossword puzzles in the Newspaper.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, in addition to his wife, Sheila of the home; his children: Carlos (Jennifer Stokes) Sturghill, Travis Clark, Frankie (Nakia Little) Clark and Carmal Sturghill, all of Statesville; siblings, John Wayne Tatum, Benny Ray Tatum, and Donna Butler, all of Statesville, Gloria Tatum, Loretta Mitchell of Charlotte and Todd (Lynn) Tatum of Lebanon, VA; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Grimes Sturghill of Statesville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Kathy Grimes, Robin Sturghill, Gary (Gayle) Sturghill and Todd (Kimlee Dalton) Sturghill; grandchildren: Daisyah Sturghill, Aviaz Clark, Tacari Clark, Camiel Sturghill and Zavion Torrence; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home, Statesville, NC. Bishop Wilford Walls will officiate. Members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
