Obituary for Robert Stevenson

Isaiah 25:8 He will swallow up death in victory, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces;

Mr. Robert “Big June” Stevenson was born in Iredell County on February 11, 1942 and was the son of the late Robert Howard and Hattie Stevenson Howard. He departed this life on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at The Citadel Nursing Home in Mooresville, NC following an extended illness.

June was a graduate of Lincoln Heights High School in Wilkesboro, NC, and a lifelong member of Davidsonville Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of First Baptist Church.

June was united in marriage to Patricia King Stevenson, who preceded him in death. In addition to his wife and parents; a brother, Aaron “Pop” Howard; a sister, Maggie Bell Howard Bailey; his mother-in-law, Helen King; his sisters-in-law, Carol (Paul) Williams and Pamela Malone; and a special cousin, Steven W. Allison, also preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, his children, sons, Anthony (Stephanie) Stevenson, Brian (LaVonne) Stevenson, Tony Stevenson, Marcus Dalton, and Kivett Miller; daughters, Candance (Rakeem) Brawley and Tonetta Stevenson; godsons, Victor Wilkins, Keith Lawrence, Vinson Smith, Fredrick “Chicken Head” Little, Michael Summers, and Ronald “Ronnie” Wilkins; honorary sons, Marlon Staton, Eric Carpenter, Darryl Stephens, Stacey Carter, Donald Wilson, and Raymond Turner; honorary daughters, Kassana White and Felicia Brown; eighteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother, Harvey (Fran) Lackey of Greensboro, NC; two aunts, Evangelist Maggie Turner and Mrs. Virginia Lazenby; a special friend, Delores “Dee” Wilson; lifetime friends, Garnet Clark, Betty Simonton, and Gilbert Simonton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and the Garfield Community.

Celebration of Life services will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Christian Outreach of the Piedmont. Visitation will be from 12:00 - 1:00 pm at the church. Visit the Book of Memories for Mr. Stevenson at www.rutledgeandbigham.com. Rutledge and Bigham is serving the Stevenson family.
