Obituary for Sonny "Jay" Thompson
Mr. Sonny "Jay" Thompson, 47 of Statesville, departed this life on Saturday, May 28, 2021. He was born in Iredell County on October 15, 1973, and was the son of Kathy Murray and the late Son Thompson, Jr.
He attended the Iredell County Schools and at an early age he joined Lilly's Chapel Commandment Keepers and later attended Mt. Carmel T.P.C. He was an avid music lover and loved to read.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Ancil Murray Jr., his maternal grandparents, William Cliffton Whittington and Gladys Lillie Mae Whittington, paternal grandparents, Son Thompson, Sr and Hester Thompson, an uncle, Eric Thompson, a special cousin, Teresa Stokes and a host of great aunts and uncles.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, his loving mother and step-father, Kathy (Ancil) Murray of Troutman; two brothers, Kender (Dawn) Thompson, Sr., Kelvin (Arlinda) Murray, both of Statesville; two sisters, Chrystal (Tory) Imes of Statesville and Candace (Vincent) Chanakira of Orlando, FL; his nephews and nieces, Kender Thompson Jr., Mahogany Imes, Alana Imes, Tashawn Connor, Liam Chanakira, Karson Murray, Kolin Murray and Harlem Chanakira; aunts and uncles, William (Charlene) Whittlington, George(Eerlene) Whittington, Sam Whittington, Palicia Whittington, Jimmy Lee (Roberta) Thompson, all of Statesville, Mae (Kevin) Frances Nichols, Annie Mae (Perry) Dobbins, Freda (Tommy) Chambers, Patricia Thompson and Gloria Mills, all of Harmony; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Sunday, June 6, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Mortuary Statesville, NC.
