Obituary for Wanda Sturdivant

Ms. Wanda Michelle Rankin Sturdivant
Ms. Wanda Michelle Sturdivant, 43, passed away at Forsyth Medical Center, Silas Creek Parkway, Winston Salem, at 6:30 pm, following an extended illness. Chelle Chelle, as she was affectionately called, was the daughter Carolyn Rankin Roberts and the late Willie Paul Davis, Sr. She was born in Iredell County on January 9, 1977.
She was a 1995 graduate of South Iredell High School in Statesville, North Carolina. She also attended East Carolina University College. She became a member at Mt. Tabor Church where she served as a Deacon, Choir Member, Praise Dancer and Children Ministry Leader. In addition to her father, Willie Paul Davis, Sr., she was also preceded in death by step-father, Bradley L. Nesbit; grandfather, Joe Dewitt Rankin.
She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, her mother Carolyn (Jeffrey) Roberts of Statesville; one daughter, Kaiya Rankin of the home; one son, Jayden Sturdivant of the home; her grandmother, Ruth R. Rankin of Statesville; five siblings, Kenya (Joe) Nesbit Davis of Mooresville, Nerissa Lynn (Channing) Minor of Clarksville, TN, Willie P. Davis Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, James E. Davis, Sr. (Lisa) of Atlanta; and LaTonya Roberts of Salisbury; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Monday, September 21, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home in Statesville, NC. Burial will follow in the Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery in Cleveland, NC. Reverend Timothy Porter will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Carolyn Roberts for Kaiya & Jayden’s college fund. Her address is 225 Briarwood Drive Salisbury, NC 28147.
There will be NO PUBLIC VISITATION (WAKE), unfortunately, with the COVID-19 Virus. We, at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home, along with other funeral homes across the country, have been issued a mandate to limit the number of family and/or friends at funeral services.
