Mr. James Adrian Griffin, 62, of 1012 Lyle Haven Drive, N. W., Conover, NC, passed away at the Gordon Hospice House on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, following an extended illness. He was born in Iredell County on April 13, 1954, and was the son of Rebecca Morrison Douglas Griffin and the late James Wilbert Griffin. He was married to Mrs. Teresa Ann Griffin, who survives. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Dominique Morrison, a sister, Gail Whittenburg; a brother, Robert Lee Griffin, an aunt, Arabella Gray; and two uncles, June Douglas and Frederick Douglas.
He was attended Statesville High School and served with the United States Marines where he was honorably discharged. He was a member of Victory Temple Baptist Church of Lincolnton.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life in addition to his wife, Teresa of the home and his mother, Rebecca of Statesville; are one daughter, Fajoya (Randy) White of Statesville; two sons, Michael D. Turner of Statesville and James Griffin, Jr. of Troutman; one step-son, Darrel Reid of Newton; one step-daughter, Tonya Reid of the home; for brothers, William Griffin of Virginia Beach, Va, Steven Griffin, Kenny Griffin and Anthony Griffin, all of Statesville; one sister, Kathy Scott of Statesville; his mother-in-law, Idell White of Sherrills Ford; eight grandchildren, Deondra Everhart, Rakesha Turner, Shalese Turner, Crystal Turner, Jamya Griffin, Jocelyn Griffin, Janya Summers, Jaylen Griffin; five brothers-in-law, Geryle (Regina) Lyerly of HIckory, Jimmy Reid of Claremont, Ricky Reid of Sherrills Ford, Wilbert Reid of Asheville, and James Lylery of Hickory; four sisters-in-law, Crystal Jones and Dottie Moore, both of Philadelphia, Pa., Diane (Stanton) Moss of Hickory and Sharon Lyerly of Sherrills Ford; a special friend, David (Karen) Moore of HIckory; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Saturday, April 8, 2017, at 12:00 noon at The Mary B. Bigham Memorial Chapel of Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Bishop Thomas Thompson, Jr. will officiate and burial will follow in the Veterans Section in Belmont Cemetery with Military Rites being performed.
Members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Fajoya (Randy) White, 704 South Meeting Street, Statesville, at other times.
